The story
The Robbies were a short-lived instrumental surf group from Robertsport, Liberia, active for a brief period in the late 1960s. Named either after guitarist Robert “Robbie” Freeman or the town itself, the band played a raw Atlantic version of surf rock inspired by American records brought in by sailors and heard through distant radio signals.
Their only known release, “Robertsport Stomp”, paired the frantic “Robertsport Stomp” with the darker “Cape Mount Ghost”. Few copies survived, and the group disappeared from local memory almost as quickly as they arrived.
