Microrayon 8
Microrayon 8, Bishkek, 1990s
Microrayon 8 were a short-lived shoegaze band from Microrayon 8 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan — a residential microdistrict of apartment blocks, courtyards and late-night windows.
The group formed around Altynai, whose voice gave their rough rehearsals a fragile, almost spectral quality, drifting through reverb, chorus and cheap delay pedals. They were said to be preparing a full record, but the sessions never really came together. Plans dissolved, people drifted away and the band left almost nothing behind.
The only song they managed to record was "Gniewomir" — a dreamlike piece about a lost lover, remembered in fragments rather than fully explained. It never received a proper cover. The only surviving artwork appears to be a crumpled piece of paper with the band name written in the corner and the title scrawled across it in blue ink.
