The story

Klan Sakhalin were a short-lived group from Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East, active in the early 1990s around a small port city on the edge of the Pacific.

The group centred on Maks Voronin, Anya Kim and Lev Kravtsov, three figures from the island’s local cassette and club scene. Maks was known for his rough presence and restless energy, Anya for her colder, more reflective voice, while Lev handled much of the group’s production and tape work. It was often said locally that Maks and Anya were a couple, though neither of them ever spoke about it publicly.

Their only known release, Снег на бетоне (Snow on Concrete), collected four tracks: Туманный порт (Foggy Harbor), Пока не рассвело (Before Dawn), Дальний Восток (Far East) and Снег на бетоне (Snow on Concrete). It circulated locally for a short time before the group disappeared. Maks Voronin was said to have left the island soon after, while Anya later resurfaced with a solo recording of her own.
